I first met Lula in Turner's Grocery in Langsville. She was a friendly soul. Knew no stranger. My husband, while waiting in the clinic waiting room for me, Lula had come in, I think, in a wheelchair. She had been bitten by, I don't know what kind of critter, but she kept my husband entertained with her adventures on her homeplace. Told him she still cut her own firewood and she was way up in years at that time! He told others about her stories and he wanted to see her again, to listen to more of her adventures. She left him very impressed.
