Margaret Alberta Edwards
May 18, 1943 - June 29, 2025

Margaret Alberta (Smith) Edwards, 82, of Rutland, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on June 29, 2025. Born on May 18, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Giles Glenwood Smith and Beatrice Mae (Denny) Smith.
A lifelong resident of Rutland, Margaret was a deeply spiritual woman who lived her life with grace, compassion, and a heart full of service. She dedicated many years to her community as the Postmaster of the Rutland Post Office, where she greeted everyone with warmth and kindness. Her generous spirit touched countless lives; she was always ready to lend a hand, share a kind word, or offer a listening ear.

Margaret is survived by her husband, Larry Dale Edwards, and a beloved mother to three sons and their wives: Daniel and Angela (Hatfield) Edwards, Michael and Mary (Glidden) Edwards, and Ricky and Angie (Grueser) Edwards. She was a proud grandmother to Joel Edwards and his wife Jessica Montuori; Hannah and her husband Evan Underwood; and Elizabeth Grace Edwards. Her legacy continues through her great-grandson, Owen Jacob DeMoss, son of Elizabeth.
She is also survived by her cherished sister, Charlotte Hescht (Smith), her brother-in-law, Arthur Hescht, and by her loving nieces and nephews: David and Ramona Hescht, and Laura (Hescht) and Jerry Martin. Her grand-nieces and grand-nephews include: Nathan Hescht and his wife Holly, Jessie (Hescht) and Jerry Buckner, Eli Martin and Kylie Lunsford, and Rachel Martin and her partner Noah Barr. Her great-grand-nieces and nephews include: Sutton, Brody, and Summit Hescht, and Casen Martin. A dear family friend, Carl Nichols, also survives her.
Margaret was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Giles Glenwood Smith and Beatrice Mae (Denny) Smith, as well as by Lonnie Wade Hutton, a dear and cherished presence in her life.
A woman of many passions, Margaret was an active member of several community organizations including the Rutland Garden Club, the Rutland Firemans Auxiliary, the Rutland United Methodist Church, and the Rutland High School Alumni Association. Her dedication to her community and her unwavering faith were a guiding light to all who knew her. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at Birchfield Funeral Home in Rutland, Ohio, with the funeral service to follow immediately after with Pastor Larry Fisher.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Village of Rutland in honor of the Rutland High School Alumni Association and designated as such.
Margarets legacy of love, service, and devotion will live on through the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
