Carol "June" Patterson Dewhurst, 86, of Rutland, stepped into the arms of Jesus and her beloved "Buck" on Monday 24, 2021. She was surrounded by 3 generations of her fanily who escorted her home with all the love she had so freely given throughout her life.

June was born June 29, 1934 to O.O. and Audrey Mills Patterson. Having grown up in a family of educators, she passed on a love of learning and the value of education to her 5 children. On December 31, 1952, June married the absolute love of her life; her high school sweetheart Harold "Buck" Dewhurst who preceded her in 2015. Although her faith sustained her after his passing, she never stopped yearning to be in his arms.

With the exception of time spent as a Navy wife, June spent her entire life in Rutland doing what she loved best; being a wife and mother and serving her Lord. She was a quiet pillar in her church; leading vacation Bible School, teaching Sunday School and leading youth group. Her testimony was always a joyful sound as she proclaimed that living for Jesus was the absolute "best life". June ministered throughout church and community by quietly sending a freshly baked pan of rolls or loaf of bread to encourage others. At home, she was the embodiment of the Proverbs 31 woman and her children and grandchildren did indeed "rise up and call her blessed". She was known throughout the community for her sweet dispostion and that was exactly how she was at home. Her childern grew up with the security of her love and the silliness of her fun side. No children were ever more passionately loved.

Together Buck and June raised a family who learned to serve God first, love our fellow man and serve our individual calling. Their legacy continues to a third generation who has evidenced their great love in churchs, workplace and, most importantly, to one another. This family knows we have been greatly blessed and will continue their legacy into the future.

Left to cherish her memory are 5 children and their spouses; Andrea (Rodney) Wright, Robin, (Dean) Harris, Kim (Becky) Dewhurst, Dr. Jay (Sue) Dewhurst and Penny (Ed) Ransburg; grandchildren: Bryan Enright, Shannon Williams, Traci Wright, Erin Lisle, Deidre Goss, Dr Christopher Dewhurst, Audrey Mangulabnan Michelle Duncan, Jeffrey Dewhurst, Jenna Wilson, Kimberly Dewhurst, Patrick Dewhurst, Heidi Sankey, Kaitlin Ramirez, Cori Dewhurst, Chelsea Ray, Jeremy Honaker, Ashley Phillips, Michelle Ramsburg, and Brandon Ramsburg; 37 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. June is also survived by sister-in-law Rose Patterson and brother-in-law James "Bill" Dewhurst; "adopted" family Tony and Miranda Grate and family; as well as very special best friend Bea Dugan. We were especially blessed and grateful for two caretakers God sent to help us; Alyssa Smith and Sharon Schweikert. There are simply no words to express what their loving care has meant to us. In Grandma June's heart, there was no distinction between biological family versus those who were members by love. All were loved and equally welcomed to a place in her heart and home.

June was preceded in death by her husband Harold "Buck" Dewhurst, Parents O.O. and Audrey Patterson, brother Paul "Pat" Patterson, son-in-law Dan Enright, 2 nephews she helped raise John and Don Smith, grandsons Michael Dewhurst and Matthew Wright, a great grandson Carson Dewhurst.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 on Thursday, May 27, 2021, at Danville Holiness Church, 31057 State Route 325, Langsville, OH., with Rev. Victor Roush and Rev. Paul Eckert officiating. There will be no separate calling hours, but family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the services. Arrangements are by Birchfield Funeral Home of Rutland.
